“When you grow up learning to dance competitively, the discipline, physical power and mindset required to achieve a level of artistry that can be appreciated by an audience makes you very aware,” says Amber Griffin, award winning photographer.
Amber Griffin applies her personal dance awareness with intense focus to craft vividly inspiring photographs international judges are taking notice of.
Creating beautiful imagery has always been her ambition. Amber loves to collaborate with dancers and other artists, elevating both their vision and her own through shared association and experimentation. Line, light and movement are her focus when photographing dance, and balancing these three elements creates the finest results.
Amber’s style has developed through studio-based dance portraiture for both commercial and developing dancers, shooting portfolio work for pre-professional dancers and dance events throughout New Zealand.
After winning both the 2015 Gold Medal for Commercial Photography and the Highest Scoring Print at the World Photographic Cup in Montpellier, France, Amber held her first solo fine art exhibitions in Wellington and Auckland. In 2016, she was named Commercial Photographer of the Year and Wellington Regional Photographer of the Year at the NZIPP Iris Awards.
While the awards and sales are wonderful, Amber also enjoys working with a variety of other long-term commercial and corporate clients.
“I believe in measuring photographic success by my clients’ satisfaction. We’re all only ever as good as the last job we’ve undertaken, so I strive to approach every new challenge with the ambition that it will become my best work yet,” says Amber.
