Lightroom EXIF Data and Gallery 2

When it comes to streamlining your workflow there are lots of little things that you can do to help your overall process. The EXIF data contained in your image files if used wisely can certainly be a great little time saver.

Gallery 2, like a lot of other image galleries can read your EXIF/IPTC data and put it to good use. This will make the process of uploading multiple images much quicker and easier by automatically applying: Titles, Descriptions and Keywords to your images without the need for any intervention afterwards. This is done from the Library module within Adobe Lightroom.

Step 1

Apply your keywords> tags to you image. Or, to make things easier use an existing a keyword tag set, or create a new one to speed up the process. These keywords correspond to the keywords within Gallery 2.

Step 2

Apply the image Title and Caption - these correspond to Tile and Description Fields within Gallery. The easiest way is to ensure that you select the Quick Describe view within Lightroom.

Step 3

Make sure that you have the EXIF/IPTC Plugin installed and configured within Gallery 2. The setting that I have selected will produce the required result of automatically populating the Title, Keywords and Description. If you are using IPTC/EXIF it will override your settings during upload.

Step 4

From within Gallery you should now have the information we set above applied. How Gallery 2 uses this information will depend on the Gallery 2 theme and configuration.

Thank you for the information. Will save me a lot of time and keeps the workflow straight and powerful.

I am happy to share what I have learnt. The more we share the more we learn.

Thats good info - I was using similar settings but its good to get confirmation.

The one issue I have not been able to solve is that of keyword hierarchies. I have my Lightroom keywords setup in hierarchies such as:

- People
-- Arvind
-- Arvind's Family
...
- Style
-- Landscape
-- Cityscape
...

etc...

When Lightroom exports a photo tagged with "Arvind", it will also export the "People" keyword; when it exports "Landscape" it also exports "Style".

Although a minor annoyance, it does look a little odd to have a photo of the Grand Canyon tagged "Style"...

Do you have a solution you can think of, other than to remove the hierarchy...

I don't use a hierarchical keyword structure for that very reason.

If there is a a solution I have not figured it out but I haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it either.

In Lightroom 3.2 you can solve this by de-selecting export tag; (I'm using a localized version so I'm not sure what term is used)
Just do right mouse on Style and de-select the firts checkbox.

This is a well written article on this subject. I have been looking at starting a new business and this is valuable information to help me in my decision. Thank you.

I have been exploring this topic for a some long time. You have offered great information in your post and some things I have not seen in other content I have read by my friends.
